Am I The Only One?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMusical talent is not something that I can claim, not even a little bit but I am really good at listening to it. Whenever I’m in a good mood or a bad mood I can find the music to fit me. It really should be no wonder then that I flip my ITunes on random when I am facing writer’s block, anyone else do the same thing? Do you ever find a song or a lyric that just grabs you and all you can do is hold on? It’s happened to me more times than I can count. This post being a perfect example, whenever I am looking to escape reality there is no man for me but Jimmy Buffett.

“He decided he wanted to live in a fantasy world and I thought what’s wrong with that?”-Buffett

Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That.

If Jimmy Buffett can make it as a Pirate, I can make it as a writer… who happens to enjoy a really great Margarita 😉

Is it 5pm yet?

Taking The Next Step

UnquietMind

This is a book review of sorts but also an inspiration for my next novel. This was a required reading for my memoir and personal essay class, it was unlike anything I had ever read before. Ironic since I have a father who is a paranoid schizophrenic. Perhaps I had skipped over those books for fear of what might come from gaining more knowledge. The author is bi-polar but also one of the leading doctors in that field providing an intense juxtaposition of the struggle. I encourage everyone to read this book whether or not you are directly linked to mental illness because it opens a new level of understanding for the human condition. She offers brutally honest moments and medical analysis. It is encouraging to see mental illness more wildly discussed in the public forum which is why I am going to share my experiences with the world. I know I am not alone in this struggle and I want other people to feel the same way.

Awkward Friday Fun

quote

Friday is almost halfway over and I am just now getting around to my Friday Fun post, shame on me. I was up late at an NBA game, I have season tickets for the Nuggets, so I will use that as an excuse. The irony however was that the inspiration for this post came from the people watching I did in the stands. People really are fascinating creatures and the things they will discuss loudly in a crowded place is fabulous. I had four middle-aged women behind me who I paid no attention to until I heard this gem, “I don’t want to be super offensive or anything but you ex-husband totally upgraded with his next wife” it was followed but an awkward silence, a sip, and this reply, “I know right?!?!?” I was hooked instantly, think of all the wonderful stories that could be created with that one interaction. Inspiration is everywhere all you have to do is reach out and grab the dialogue we are surrounded with everyday. Let your imagination to the rest.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Hunt Down Your Next Idea

BearBookshelfDo Bears hunt? I have no idea, I assume so since they are a predator. What I do know is that they fish for salmon, snatching a single fish from the group as they rush up stream. Isn’t that how we should approach our next big project? If you are like me your mind is full of ideas, thoughts, and words all of which have potential so why not be the bear? Be the Bear, get aggressive and commit to that one idea and reap the benefits.

I don’t know if I would select this particular bookshelf, I have never been the field and stream type although I do enjoy the modern look of the piece. It would be fun to mess with the neighbors, Happy Friday Everyone!

Do It, Differently.

It is the end of another long and successful week, while I was looking for fun bookshelves for my Friday post I came across this gem. Yes, that is an upside bookshelf which seemingly holds the books onto it, I remain skeptical. Either way it is fun and imaginative; sometimes it is better to try something completely outside of the ordinary, who knows what amazing idea you may come up with? It may not work or it may work beyond your expectations but you have to think outside of the box or even perhaps upside down to get to those ideas. Happy Friday Everyone!

Your Inspiration in Lights

ArrowBookshelf

As most of you know I take special pride in putting together something particularly fun on Friday but lately I feel like I have fallen into a routine. I am most certainly not keeping it fresh or even fun enough which is why I chose the shelf above for my pick this week. This year is full of a lot of new things for me; such as a Masters level writing program starting Monday, don’t worry I will not slack on my blog, only my sleep. So taking a page out of that book (pun intended) I selected something a little more modern and outside of my comfort zone, the more I look at it the more I think you could make this special shelf work in any house that appreciates books. Happy Friday Everyone!

A Very Cozy Friday

Library-with-Fireplace

The temperatures are dropping, the end of the year is coming and all I want to do is curl up in front of a nice warm fire-place and let my book take me away. In beautiful Colorado it has yet to hit above 32 degrees this week and while I love the beauty of winter I get tired of the constant shiver when the cold is not interrupted by the usual sunshine. It is time for a final dose reading and relaxation before a new, exciting and action packed year begins. Happy Friday Everyone!

The Perfect Escape

Hanging-Tent

The end of the year is always full of obligations; people are busy with shopping, work, family and anything else that could possibly find a way to enter the schedule. There is stress, there is fun, there is not a moment to spare. People say that all you have to do is survive the madness, before you know it the end of the year will be here and the never ending list will be completed. Not true, a new year brings new goals, new possibilities and a blank page to create what you want the year to be. To keep my peace I find solice in a mental vacation; this tent with me inside, imagine the beautiful locations you can pick from. Imagine the inspiration. Whether it be the mountains or the rainforest or even a quiet spot on the plains; it would be a chance to just be.

Books, Beds and Dreams

Headboard of books

My favorite place to read is definitely my bed; it’s comfortable, cozy and the perfect place to come up with the best new ideas. I saw this headboard and fell in love, it may not be practical but it would be a nice way to incorporate your favorite books, poems, or thoughts. Every night before you fall asleep you could read one final sentence and let the inspiration take over your dreams. Happy Friday!
