Hunt Down Your Next Idea

BearBookshelfDo Bears hunt? I have no idea, I assume so since they are a predator. What I do know is that they fish for salmon, snatching a single fish from the group as they rush up stream. Isn’t that how we should approach our next big project? If you are like me your mind is full of ideas, thoughts, and words all of which have potential so why not be the bear? Be the Bear, get aggressive and commit to that one idea and reap the benefits.

I don’t know if I would select this particular bookshelf, I have never been the field and stream type although I do enjoy the modern look of the piece. It would be fun to mess with the neighbors, Happy Friday Everyone!

Let It Flow

20130106_095303A funny thing happened to me last night; no funny is not the appropriate word to use, a surprising thing occurred. For the first time since I began writing seriously I was not able to write down my true emotions. I wrote outside of myself; I tried to clean it up and make it what I assumed other people would want to or need to hear. This has never happened to me; it was a reality check, what exactly was I trying to hide? I thought about it and the answer is nothing; I have never believed in hiding behind anything before so why should it start now? If I can’t express myself in my writing why am I doing it? Anyone else share this struggle, what did you do to work through it? Let’s make a promise to just own it.

Be Creative, Take a Risk, Let it Flow; the most important works I have read were not cloaked in the safety of the norm.

Do It, Differently.

upside-down-book-shelf-450x262

It is the end of another long and successful week, while I was looking for fun bookshelves for my Friday post I came across this gem. Yes, that is an upside bookshelf which seemingly holds the books onto it, I remain skeptical. Either way it is fun and imaginative; sometimes it is better to try something completely outside of the ordinary, who knows what amazing idea you may come up with? It may not work or it may work beyond your expectations but you have to think outside of the box or even perhaps upside down to get to those ideas. Happy Friday Everyone!

Legacy

20130117_105838

I may not know where I am going but I do know I want to make you proud.

It was more than just a slogan; a life motto: Intelligent, Beautiful, Modest.

I don’t do it for you, I do it because of you and what you wanted me to be.

The risks, the reward, the pain, the joy.

In the end your absence has grown, grown to appreciation for what was, what can be.

It does not mean I wouldn’t do anything for one more conversation; a room full of familiar scents; Pall Malls, Black Coffee.

You are with me, a part of me; if I want to hear you I can in my actions, in my thoughts and in his music.

Forever Grateful.

Ramblings of a Writer

cigar

~ If the end of the journey is unknown, how do you know where to start? Does it matter?

~ I try to write all of my thoughts onto paper, but I never seem to get it right. Is that wrong?

~ If you have a story tell it, you never know who might need to hear it most. That person could be you.

~ Ramble, write, erase, create, get frustrated; the end will justify the means.

~ If you stop pretending to be satisfied with what you’ve done; your hunger could take you to places you never thought you’d go.

Long Over Due Book Review- Vonnegut

Vonnegut

In the New Year I made an important decision, I would leave my literary comfort zone, the selection of this book is direct result of that. It is not that I am opposed to Vonnegut or any of his books, for years people have been telling me to pick them up, yet each time I resisted. I can admit now that those decisions were terrible, I have been missing out.

“Cat’s Cradle” focuses on a man named John and his journey to get the real story of the day the “bomb” dropped during WWII, he wanted the behind the scenes details of the man who created it,  Dr. Hoenikker. What follows is fascinating, satirical and highly comical journey of one man who observes society, religion and science fighting for dominance. The language is not complex but the word play and the book’s over all structure allow the careful reader to catch a glimpse of how man, religion and most importantly science came together to perhaps destroy the world.

You will walk away from this book with a new appreciation for writing and a new way perspective on everyday personal interactions.
