Summer Changes

I think what I like most about the summer is its ability to be dramatic. It can be sunny and cheerful one moment and then dark and destructive the next.

You think you can see the storm coming but you can never be sure until it arrives.

There is no preparation only experience.

It strikes me as the right way to approach the world

and

for me, for tonight, writing.

Another Day, Another Challenge

To celebrate finishing up what I believe to be the last major edits of a novel I started over two years ago I am going to start yet another new story. You know because the other novel I did which is begging for its edits just isn’t enough.

I am participating in Camp NaNoWrimo in July and set my goal at 50K even though this is the month where you can pick a lower goal if you wish. It was tempting but there is something about the 50K mark that just calls to me.

I wonder is it possible to have too many stories, edits, poems, blogs etc. going on at once?

Nope 🙂

Is anyone else participating? What are your goals and strategies?

Capturing The Bubbles

There isn’t much I enjoy more than a nice cold beer on a hot day. There is just something so refreshing and relaxing about it. The moment practically begs you to ponder the universe and your place in it. When the mood is right it can lead you to believe that everything is indeed right.

A funny thing happened to me the other day while I was enjoying this Ambiguous Ale and yes that is the name of the ale. I was transfixed by the way the bubbles were floating to the top and disappearing. Some of them lingered before making their ascent while others shot to the top with the maximum speed allowed. Then of course there were others that found their speed in some happy medium.

There is a metaphor buried deep within that beer. It may not be the prettiest but I think it can apply to so many things. Whether it is writing, working, or even traveling everything has its own speed and ultimately once you reach the top, the end, it will pop.

Don’t worry though another bubble is forming on the bottom of the pint glass.

Mardi Gras

Sometimes you need a reason to toss inhibition to the side.

Imbibe in a tangy hurricane.

Pop a beignet, a pastry delight from the gods.

An extra drop or five of hot sauce in your gumbo.

Find yourself lost in the crowd on Bourbon street.

Jump, dance, maybe even something more risqué to get a strand of those beads.

The music and the atmosphere leave you hypnotized.

Under a spell of debauchery- not a worry in the world.

Forget about tomorrow you can always repent in the future.
If you want to- I don’t.

Pass the hot sauce.

Window Thoughts

Staring out my window I dream.

Staring out my window I procrastinate.

Staring out my window I can see my future.

Staring out my window I contemplate self-doubt.

One day I won’t have to look out this window ever again.

Creating with Soul

IMG_1095-0

I have found that my best work comes when I write by hand.

The ideas appear and I jot them down before they are lost forever.

Does it really matter if it’s by hand or computer?

As To Be

IMG_1082

Six word stories with this photograph in Denver as the setting:

Wall discourse sets us all free.

I was not once seen plainly.

To be everything is a trap.

His proposal under the bridge failed.

Only the shadows warm my heart.

Happiness given by uniquely blue letters.

In the window my reflection soared.

Against the wall she loved him.

The sun dried tears of bliss.

Unseen she was still his world.

Obnoxiously Opulent

2015/01/img_1046.jpg

This isn’t a lecture.

We’ve had too many of those no matter how elegantly written.

Instead a suggestion if I may?

And  I will.

If you elect to let it fly by invest in something, something obnoxiously opulent.

Watch the time tick by in style.

Fortune

2015/01/img_1041.jpg

The fortune teller in the window is calling my name. I went once before but the accuracy was so great that I have never returned. No one ever told me what a burden it would be to know your fate. It makes you question every move you make. You don’t know what is worse; to live out your prophecy or to corrupt your future as it was ordained. I want both and I want neither which is why I only look when I pass the fortune teller calling my name.

Week One Check In

IMG_0909.PNGHow are my fellow writers doing with their word counts for NaNoWrimo?

I hit 15k tonight and that means I am ahead of schedule for the month which I seem to do every year. It’s the whole finishing thing that gets tricky.

Any good stories, tips or thoughts you want to share?

This year I have had more fun than ever creating unique chapter titles.
