There is absolutely no reason to take this picture,
There is nothing interesting about it.
It doesn’t have contrast,
There is nothing significant.
Yet I can’t help myself.
Snap, Shutter, Snap, Snap.
Capture, whatever it might have been, it is now forever imposed in my camera.
Maybe one day I will figure it out,
Part of me hopes that isn’t true,
There is something forever interesting about
What might have been, what could be.
Most
of all
Mystery.
There used to be a time when I could come out here,
I could see for miles and miles,
what would I see you might wonder? The answer is simple,
Nothing.
Now, As I sit parked in the my car, no longer hidden from the city lights I know that I can see it all.
No more can I look to the right and wonder what might prowl on the plains.
I sit here and wonder on top of this modest hill- what will happen in just a few more days?
A few more months? Will I even sit here on the side of the road masked by the cover of darkness?
No.
There is no place to hide.
If I want to see the stars unhindered I will have to run further the next time.
Speeding down a new abandoned highway, the journey is no longer minutes but hours.
All to see the stars,
unhindered.
With it comes a combination of excitement and misery.
The blanket can wrap itself around
you romantically or detrimentally.
The beauty of its innocence, the first few precious moments it lays there
cannot be ignored.
Much like you, untouched its
white facade, its enchantment.
Forever lost trying to find the ways each flake is unique unto itself.
In an instant, a trail is blazed, the sun comes out, a cat’s track crunches the pristine surface.
Character has replaced innocence,
it has to be for the better?
*****
Ice encroaches it,
sunlight cannot light it up,
grasp warmth from within.
