Is It Just Me Or?

Image

Do all of your best ideas come to light just as darkness surrounds you? I can stare for hours at my notebook or at my laptop without a single thought to grab onto. Then, just as I drift off and dream of what could be the scene strikes. It’s never fully developed but it is a dare. Do I get out of the warm confines of my bed to jot down this magnificent unicorn of an idea? Or do I trust myself to remember it come the break of dawn?

I have done both several times, meeting with failure and victory.

Is it because I allow my mind to wander so freely that these thoughts take hold? Is it because my imagination is priming itself for whatever dream I am about to have? I wish I could capture whatever it is I do before I fall to sleep.

The perfect writing trance, it is like nirvana for my creativity. It cannot be created only experienced.

Experience is the best teacher.

Rustled

The end can approach

quickly, quietly without warning.

It could be your moment.

Standing at a crossroad,

you must decide.

The leaves are just

waiting to be rustled.

Seize the chance to

create your own with path with

pen in hand.

21 Days and Counting

ImageI took this picture from a coffee shop on the final day of my trip to Chicago. It is a busy street, numerous people walking by, it would have been the perfect place to sit down and write a novel.

Now that I am back to reality I realize the goal of writing a novel is quickly approaching (NaNoWriMo). Fortunately one of my two Grad classes reminded of one of my favorite Hemingway quotes, “All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know”.

My goal by Friday is to write that sentence, I have great words floating around in my head right now, “diatribe, bitter, lust, absolution, beauty, gold” but I haven’t made them work truly just yet.

When was the last time you wrote one true sentence?

Also to my fellow Nano participants- what are you doing to get your creativity / inspiration flowing?

Cheers

ImageWell my first night in Chicago could not have gone any better. I got to enjoy some good beer and make some new friends at Mother Hubbards.

After that was an amazing dinner downtown(see above) on the patio under the cover as rain came pouring down. The lighting put on quite a show. It was the type of scene I would love to capture in my writing.

Today’s adventure will include the Navy Pier.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Foreign Friday Inspiration

Amsterdam

It has been raining here in Colorado for what seems like forever. I have never seen anything like this and I am sure I never will again, watching the news has proven to be quite the distraction.

I needed to get back on track, this picture of Amsterdam was perfect for that. I am hoping to go to Europe next year to travel, photograph and most important write. I don’t need to waste another moment not improving myself.

What is driving you to improve?

Happy Friday!

Who Do You Write For?

Directly or Indirectly

I saw this as I was just randomly searching for quotes, I am not sure where it came from but I certainly agree. Whether the person you write for is you or someone else, there is always someone.

Friday Doodling

DoodleBookshelf

I know this isn’t practical and really doesn’t make any sense at all but that is why I have to have it! I don’t know if I would start with a white book shelf, I am more likely to use light blue. I would have various colors of sharpies readily available and anytime someone wanted to borrow a book I would have them leave a note upon returning it, or maybe as a check out routine. I could also see myself jotting down a few notes about my favorite books. It is a big bookshelf of creativity. It’s more than just books and writing; it is a collaboration of them, right in front of you.

Hey, I might even be able to keep my books organized that way….. haha who are kidding my books will never be organized, just the way I like it.

Happy Friday Everyone!
